Memory:
This beautiful album was released when I was a Senior in high school. It featured the main song to the most successful movie of all time back then: Titanic. The song being “My Heart Will Go On.” I remember being enamored with it when it played at the end of the movie when me and some high school friends went to watch it at the Nu’uuli Place Cinemas in American Samoa.
.
I remember that during the 1998 Grammy Awards ceremony that aired live to American Samoa (my homeland) from the continental USA, Celine performed “My Heart Will Go On” on it and that it won several awards that included Song of the Year and Record of the Year. What a field day for Celine Dion and she was at her peak then.
My favorite songs from this beautiful album are:
- “The Reason” the opening song to the album. In my own way, I attribute it to my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ where He is the very reason why I am in existence and that He helped me get through difficult times like suicidal thoughts, intrusive thoughts, paranoia, and an uncanny fascination with evil that is no longer here at this point in my life.
- "Immortality” which was a breath of fresh air when I first listened to it being played on American Samoa’s FM radio station – KSBS. Featuring the Bee Gees, I imagined this song as my passage to adulthood. And that because I had a role in my graduating class’s theme song, I was flying on high feeling nothing can stop me from attaining my dreams. That I was very optimistic and positive about my life back then. (Oh, I was so innocent and carefree back then. It shadows my heart just thinking back to those youthful years of simplicity and naivety.)
- “Love Is on the Way” because I suffered a breakdown after high school, making me feel like all my dreams and goals and purpose in life were futile but this song gave me hope again, telling me that the love of my family (my mom, her family, and my siblings plus my God) will be my impetus to strive for the best and to never quit. Quitting is not an option.
- “Miles To Go (Before I Sleep)” describes my love and devotion for my King, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just listen to the lyrics of this song and you will know what I am talking about. I will always love my Jesus, I will always focus on Him in my journey though it may be long, etc. He is the center of my life and He will be with me always and forever. Such a masterpiece this song is!
- "I Hate You Then I Love You (duet with Luciano Pavarotti)” is a song I like whenever I play this album because of its classical tones and because my oldest nephew is named after Luciano. I feel like it is simply one of Celine’s best duets in her music career because her vocals mesh so well with Luciano’s. Enough said, ha-ha.
- "To Love You More” is such a glamorous, glorious, lightweight tune from Celine. Listening to it always makes me float and elevated. It is one of my soundtrack hits for when I am happy and content with life. Thank you, Celine, for a wondrous and inspiring song as this.
And those are my memories and review of this easy-listening gem. It is available for streaming on Spotify and on YouTube for free or with a membership. Praise God, Praise Jesus, and Praise Music! Amen.
